Data Governance
If Data is considered to belong to the firm’s
strategic assets, Data Governance is essential.
Data governance
Over time, the value of data to business operations has grown. And it continues to grow. Firms now understand that data quality is not only essential for a smooth operation, it is a metric which determines the level of success in a competitive market place.
Financial institutions and energy traders are data-intensive businesses. They need reliable, consistent and traceable content to steer and support its internal processes, to inform customers and to satisfy regulators. To achieve this, you need access to the appropriate data sets, and a combination of skilled data-dedicated staff, processes, procedures and tools.
Data Governance contributes to a process of continuous improvement of data quality and, as a result, to the improvement of efficiencies - in processes across the whole value chain. It also supports compliance with regulatory requirements as well as an improvement of the decision-making process. It supports the corporate strategy and it protects the firm's reputation.
In short, Data Governance contributes directly and firmly to running a succesfull business operation.
Data Governance will deliver:
- Operating model;
- Data Quality rules;
- Risks & Controls;
- Data Lineage;
- Data Glossary;
- Data Policy;
- Data Quality reports;
- Data Quality Issue resolution.
These deliverables will support the continuous improvement of data quality in the firm.
We help you to embed Data Governance in the firm's daily operation, or to achieve the next level of maturity of Data Governance. We'll coach the organisation and use best practises when defining the Data Strategy and Data Policy. We help identifying Data Owners, Data Producers and Data Consumers, as well as setting up a network of Data Stewards. We'll guide you in defining data quality rules as well as in determing and implementing appropriate controls to measure data quality. If the operationg model requires specific tooling, we'll guide the selection process and the implementation.
Assessment
The level of Data Governance maturity differs per firm, as well as the growth ambitions. We have developed a model to efficiently assess the state of the firm's data governance capability, as well as to structure the roadmap. This model has been derived from a number of data governance theories, combined with practical experiences and hard-won lessons of many of the world’s leading organizations. As such, it can be considered as a best-of-breed blend. It addresses the strategies, organisational structures, technology and operational best practices needed to successfully drive data governance. Our model is based on eight core elements which define the goals of data governance at a practical level and establish the operational requirements that are needed for sustainable data governance.
The assessment is kicked off by an analysis of the firm's data governance ambitions. The result - structured into the eight key elements - determines the desired, or "SOLL" situation. Subsequently, we'll take a snapshot of the current, or "IST" state, again, based on the eight key elements. Having clarity on the current (IST) and the desired (SOLL) state of the firm's data governance capability, we'll prepare the firm's roadmap, which is built on realistic goals and timelines which are set by you.
